Jason Newsted and the Chophouse Band Perform Bob Seger's 'Turn the Page' Live (2026)

Jason Newsted, the former Metallica bassist, is back with a new project, the Chophouse Band. This band, named after his home studio, features Newsted on rhythm guitar and lead vocals, along with a new bassist, Jimbo Hart, a Muscle Shoals, Alabama native and former member of Jason Isbell's backing band, The 400 Unit. The Chophouse Band's version of Bob Seger's classic, 'Turn the Page', is a rootsier take on the Metallica hit, showcasing Newsted's versatility as a musician. The band's opening tour night featured a covers-saturated set, including songs from folk singer Joan Baez, classic rocker Neil Young, and jazz master Louis Armstrong. During the show, they also worked in a snippet of Metallica's early thrash gem, 'Creeping Dead'.

Newsted's journey since leaving Metallica in 2001 has been a challenging one. He has battled addiction and throat cancer, but he has emerged stronger, with a new musical venture. The Chophouse Band has been playing shows since at least 2016, and Hart joined the fold around April, gearing up for the band's summer tour. The band's current members also include drummer Robert John-Tucker and guitarists Jesse Farnsworth and Humberto Perez. They are opening around 10 shows for reigning Southern rockers Blackberry Smoke and will conclude their trek with a two-night stand at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, supporting Blackberry Smoke, on July 24 and 25.

Hart and Newsted have been friends for a while, and Hart's Instagram post in April reflects their camaraderie. Newsted's side project, the Chophouse Band, offers a different musical direction, allowing him to explore his creativity and share his passion for music with fans. The band's performances showcase Newsted's ability to adapt to different genres, from rock to folk, and his skill as a vocalist and guitarist. The Chophouse Band's version of 'Turn the Page' is a testament to Newsted's talent and his ability to pay homage to classic rock while adding his own unique twist.

In addition to the Chophouse Band, Newsted has been involved in various musical projects and collaborations. He has worked with artists such as Ozzy Osbourne and has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame alongside Metallica. Newsted's journey is a reminder that musicians can evolve and reinvent themselves, and his new project is a testament to his dedication to music and his desire to explore new creative avenues.
